The Royal Society of Edinburgh Working Group chaired by Iain Ritchie has just published its report “The Supply of Growth Capital for Emerging High Potential Companies in Scotland - http://www.royalsoced.org.uk/cms/files/advice-papers/2014/AP14_06.pdf.
It was a privilege to be part of the Working Group and to take part in such a wide ranging discussion about a subject which anyone reading this will know is close to my heart.
The Report suggests that we are very good at turning seedlings into pot plants for sale but, with one or two notable exceptions, we are not so good at turning the pot plants into shrubs or trees.
Access to capital is clearly one of the greatest barriers to growth which must be addressed.
The report makes a number of recommendations which would make a transformational difference to the funding landscape if they can be implemented and I would be interested to hear comment and feedback from anyone who has an interest in moving things forward.
