An Insight into our IP Team

IP 100

As head of our IP and Commercial Contracts team, I am leading our involvement in the IP 100 initiative, which has been launched by BQ Magazine and Metis Partners to create both UK and Scottish league tables, ranking and raising the profiles of companies which value and protect their IP as a true business asset.  The initiative will also provide networking and support events for the IP 100 entrant companies with access to various IP 100 ‘Champions’ who can provide help in various areas relating to the commercialisation of intellectual property.

MBM Commercial is delighted to be the sole IP 100 ‘Champion’ for the legal sector. The initial IP 100 event in Glasgow in September was a great success and we are looking forward to getting more involved in the months ahead.

We are also keen to encourage our clients to take advantage of this free to enter initiative, and are pleased to have a number of clients who have already signed up as IP 100 entrant companies. The deadline for this year’s IP 100 league table is closing soon so companies interested in making the table for this year will need to move fast! If you are interested in becoming an IP 100 member please speak to me (Andy Harris on 0131 226 8208) or contact Tibbie McIntyre at Metis Partners on or 0141 353 3011.

Secondments and sheep…

These last few months have also been a very busy time for Julie Nixon, who having no sooner finished a very successful part-time secondment with Edinburgh Research and Innovation (the commercialisation of Edinburgh University), was asked to get involved in another one, this time at the Roslin Institute, the famous birthplace of Dolly the Sheep.

Julie is a former life scientist who has a PhD in molecular biology, so you could say she is rather well qualified for this particular job!   Julie (or more correctly Dr. Julie…) has been a member of our IP and Commercial Contracts team for 3 years now and has been putting her skills, experience and networks from her first career to tremendous use as she successfully navigates her second.
