Be Curious!

What an inspirational remark by Professor Stephen Hawking to mark the opening of the Paralympics under the theme of “Enlightenment”.

It is our intellectual curiosity which sets mankind aside from other living beings, our ability to ask difficult questions, solve problems and find solutions.

What then are we to make of the “chattering classes” who whinge on endlessly about “austerity Britain”? Do they not have the intellectual curiosity to look for solutions? If not, should the airwaves not be dominated by those who are able to provide them?

Professor Hawking has been confined to his wheelchair for most of his life but this has not stopped his giant intellect wrestling with the meaning of life and “big bang” theory. We are now being treated to another amazing festival of sport with inspired people who don’t understand the meaning of the word “can’t” teaching us the art of the possible.

Our entrepreneurs know exactly what to do to start and build the great new businesses of tomorrow. All they need is access to a small amount of the capital that is lying “gathering dust” on bank deposits. Mr Clegg does not need to tax wealth. All he needs to do is get it off deposit and back to work in the real economy and the entrepreneurs will do the rest.
