BUSINESS ANGELS – THE NEW BAND OF ANGELS

Posted on Feb 08, 2015 by Sandy Finlayson  | Tags: angel investment, investment, Scottish investment, startups  | 0 Comments

As angel investing increases in popularity we are witnessing an enormous shift in the profile of the angel community:-

  • The average age for a business angel in the UK is now 43;
  • The number of women angels has doubled in the last few years from 7% to 14%; and
  • Far more angels are coming from different ethnic backgrounds.

A recent report http://www.ukbusinessangelsassociation.org.uk/sites/default/files/media/files/erc_nation_of_angels_full_report.pdf is an important body of work which shows the extent to which the profile of business angels is changing and it paints a healthy and optimistic picture of the market.  For those who do not have time to ready the full report, the attached slide deck (http://www.ukbusinessangelsassociation.org.uk/sites/default/files/media/files/nation_of_angels_report.pdf) will give you a quick overview in a couple of minutes.

With the clearing banks apparently in retreat from the SME market it is encouraging to see that investment by business angels is flourishing.
