At the age of eighty seven he stood in front of an audience and delivered and outstanding address with a PowerPoint presentation. He talked about the geriatric and paediatric areas of the world and showed some extraordinary statistics about the impact of the population explosion. In his book “Hot, Flat and Crowded”, the American author Thomas Friedman suggests that by then, each of America and China will have created new middle class population equivalent to the entire population of America. With only 5% of the world’s population, America today consumes about 25% of our resources and produced approximately the same percentage of our output and pollution. UK petrol consumption has already peaked with the rapid improvement in fuel consumption and car sharing schemes and there are enormous challenges and opportunities for business to help us make our scarce resources go further. For those of us living in the geriatric nations, we will also be confronted with the challenge of maintaining our current level of economic activity with an increasing ageing workforce. There has never been a better time to be an innovator.
