We have been closely involved with the formation of Rock Spring Ventures’ new UK fund, specialising in early stage life science companies and based here in Edinburgh. We are delighted that the Fund has successfully launched.
The life sciences sector is an increasingly important component of the Scottish economy but financing remains extremely challenging and this new initiative will give the whole sector a much needed shot in the arm.
It has been reported that about 70% of all the life science financings in the UK happen within 70 miles of Westminster, a radius which includes Oxford and Cambridge. There is no shortage of good science and entrepreneurial talent in Scotland. However, if life sciences are to be become a more important component of the economy, it is critical that they are able to secure more investment.
The RSV Fund is potentially transformational and Sinclair Dunlop and Kyp Sirinakis, the two Managing Partners, are to be heartily congratulated on the vision, focus and determination which they have shown over the past two years in turning their conceptual idea into a very important new reality.
