Quickblock raises £250k in funding for new jobs and growth acceleration

MBM’s corporate team recently working with innovative Scottish start-up, Quickblock as they raised investment from Equity Gap and Scottish Enterprise.

The company has developed unique rapid-assembly building blocks made from 100% recycled plastic and is another of MBM’s clients working on a sustainable product. Similar in concept to children’s building blocks, the flat-pack building material requires no tools, additional materials or construction experience. Its unique compact design makes it easy to transport to remote or hard-to-reach locations, such as rural settlements or camps. A fraction of the weight of traditional cement blocks, the block is made from 100% recycled polypropylene that would otherwise go to landfill and can be repeatedly disassembled and re-used.

Andrew VincentCommenting on the funding, Andrew Vincent, CEO noted “QuickBlock have relied on the professional advice and commercial support of MBM on a number of matters over the past year which set us on good standing in advance of this recent investment round. As always, we found the team's advice to be of a very high professional standard, commercially practical and very much considerate to needs and requirements of the business, the executive team and our shareholders. The investment process is always stressful, particularly when time pressured, however it was a pleasure to work with Kenny [Mumford] and Yavor [Georgiev] who kept us on point throughout the process. We look forward to accelerating the growth of QuickBlock over the coming years with MBM Commercial as trusted advisors."

Kenny Mumford, Head of Corporate at MBM said, “It is always rewarding working with companies developing groundbreaking technologies and products, especially when those products have a sustainable approach and a positive impact. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the Quickblock team.”

The funding will be used to create three new Sales roles and will support the firm’s growth plans.

QuickBlock was conceived by architect Hugh Fisher whose vision was to build refugee housing in the Middle East by recycling the plastic that litters parts of the region’s landscape. The company has recently worked with students from Oxford University as part of an industry skills development programme to develop the block’s deployment within the humanitarian market. Additionally, it has been further tested in a variety of applications and the company is seeking partners in the construction industry that see the benefits of the time-saving and sustainable technology.
