EIE – It’s right up our street!

On Thursday 12 May, sixty of the most promising Scottish technology companies took part in the annual investor showcase, Engage Invest Exploit (EIE).  MBM was delighted to sponsor EIE for the fifth year in a row and to see so many exciting young companies pitching for investment on the main stage of the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.  If you have attended an EIE event already, you’ll know that there is an incredible buzz on the day - and if you haven’t then you should sign up for EIE17!

EIE has continued to grow year on year, helping more and more young Scottish companies gain access to the support, coaching and mentoring they need to start up and scale up, as well as opening up their networks to some of the most active tech investors in the UK and beyond.

People sometimes ask us why we sponsor this event.  I can give no better answer than “it’s right up our street”.  EIE is all about identifying exciting young tech companies, providing support to their management teams to help them develop essential skills, and giving them an opportunity to make useful connections.  It is also about showing off the very best new talent in Scotland (of which we have a lot) to technology investors.  All of these ambitions are ones we hold in common, so supporting EIE is a very natural partnership for us.

During our sponsorship of EIE to date, we have had the pleasure of seeing many of our clients pitch for investment at EIE and go on to complete investment rounds which have been critical to their development and growth.  Like the companies participating in EIE, we have also benefited from making many new connections.  EIE16 was particularly special for us when one of our Corporate Partners (and former Senior Partner) Sandy Finlayson received a surprise “Local Hero” award for his contribution to the development of angel investment in Scottish technology companies over the course of his career.

We very much look forward to continuing our support of EIE and to seeing what the coming years hold for this very special event.  EIE17 is already off to a great start with a move to a much larger venue at the EICC as well as Sir Michael Moritz, Chairman of Sequoia Capital, confirmed as a guest speaker.

But no matter how large the stage, the goal remains the same – to identify potential new stars in the Scottish tech space and to help raise their profile to potential investors.
