Last week saw the listing on AIM of Frontier Developments plc, a Cambridge based games developer which was originally established in 1994.
In January this year, the Company was financed through Kickstarter. With a fund raising target of $2 million, (the biggest ever on Kickstarter), they managed to raise a total of £1,578,316 from 25,681 investors.
The interesting point to note is that this is the first UK-based crowdfunded company to come to the stock market. This represents a major milestone for crowdfunding and shows that crowdfunded companies really can make it up the funding ladder.
It also shows that crowdfunding works - not just for start-ups seeking to raise modest sums - but also for more mature businesses looking to raise more substantial amounts of development capital.
